Book Sense – A poem for World Book Day 2020

Books have a smell

of the stories they hold

characters’ struggles, triumphs,

broken dreams

other people’s fingers

turning the pages –

smoke in their homes

dried tears on the leaves

a smell of ink long dry

as unique to you,

as your own story.
